Social Contract Theory

Class, read the chapter on the Social Contract in the Rachels book for this week. It's pretty short.

I read the chapter.....The last sentence states that the theory is a flaw. Call me crazy but it seems that all of them have flaws. My understanding to the contact is that every one needs to agree and obey. The idea is not about being out for you but have everyones interest in mind. Is this correct?! It would be amamzing if everyone did agree to that.It should not depend on generation to generation.

That is what it says, yes.

Also, all the theories are flawed in someway, otherwise we would all be one or the other (besides Ultilitarianists).

Was there a theory or code that did not present a lot of flaws, or at least had the least/

According to my understanding you must have a self-interest into the contract you are going into. One must also understand or have evaluated that the benefit will be greater than the punishment one will receive, if we violate it.
