Should marijuana be made legal for recreational use?
How about for medicinal purposes in ALL 50 States?
The marijuana plant can be used for clothing and a lot of other goods that are now made out of cotton, and it would be cheaper than cotton. What are your opinions on this?
Marijuana can be made a taxable good.
1) Do you think it is better to have the profits from this plant circulate from drug dealer to drug dealer or circulate through the American cash flow and help the economy?
2)Do you think it is better to have the plant smuggled in from other countries and let those other countries profit from it, or have it grown in America and let the American economy profit?
If we grew marijuana in America, we would not only be creating many new goods but we would also be creating more jobs. We could employ people to work on the marijuana farms much like we do with tobacco and cotton farms. As long as the workers don't start smoking the stuff, this would be very profitable. What are your opinions?
Do you think it is morally right for a drug to be illegal if it can benefit both the people and the economy of America?
Do you think it is morally right to allow people to drink alcohol, which is a major cause of fatal automobile accidents, but not allow them to smoke marijuana, which is a major cause of obesity from all the junk food?

You are asking so many questions.....These are things you need to give your thoughts and opinions about. Not what we think about them. You should be answering them to yourself, coming to your conclusion, but then also trying to think of all sides. By asking these questions, we are doing your work for you. Maybe I am wrong, but I thought Prof. Ruiz said we were not supposed to do this. If I am wrong, I apologize and I stand corrected, and will answer all of the questions for you. I am not trying to be a smart ass or start trouble, but if it is okay then I would like the opportunity to do the same.
It seemed to me a number of those questions were perhaps rhetorical.
In any case, the idea with these blog entries is that the person writing on a specific topic would offer arguments defending their views, and everyone else is the invited to COMMENT on those arguments.
Pam is right. Just asking questions would entail everyone doing everyone else's work.
I am just going to give you a broad opinion on drugs. If a drug gets used for a medical condition and makes the person person feel ybetter then is good. When a drug is used for other than medical then is abused and it will lead to bigger issues.
Drugs have to be monitored so they are not abused by people.
There is a difference between used and abused.
At the present time I am taking some drugs for my back and let me tell you I don't like how my state of mind feels. I like to have control of what I am doing and the feeling I get from those drugs is not comfortable at all but it help my backpain.
If legalizing marijuana is good for the economy as you say, then let us take a look at the subject of legalizing the making, and the selling of alcohol. Before prohibiton, alcohol was illegal Then the government got involved and decided to legalize it. Where is all of that money? Look at the taxes and bottle deposits? Whose pocket does that money go into? The same could be said about the gambling industry. The lottery was designed to put the money back into the school systems and out of the pockets of the mafia. Are our schools any better or benefiting from it? If you think they are, how much of that money do you think goes back into the education system? Just some food for thought.....P.S....are spelling errors counted by all who write and particpating of if we just "catch" Prof. Ruiz? Spelling error in Carmen's blog in the second and last sentences?
In response to Pat:
I'm sorry if I asked too many questions, I thought that was the idea. I have my own arguments and I would not steal others arguments and pass them off as my own.
Also, alcohol was legal up until prohibition, which is when alcohol was prohibited from being sold. When they made it illegal that is when the mafia started making money on it. Once the gov't realized that American capital was going into the pockets of organized crime, they made it legal to distribute and tax alcohol once again.
I syand corrected. I just worded it all wrong. i was not trying to say that you would steal someone's ideas. i just know that we do not have nuch time and i did not want you to jeopardize your grade (if you are worried about your grade as I am mine). But that still brings us back to the final point. How much of that money goes back into the economy? I am not really sure. Do you know?
I realized after I sent my last post that the spelling corrections did not get fixed. I clicked on publish when I meant to hit preview. I could not find a way to edit it. It looks like you can only edit your posts, not comments after they are sent. I apologize for the spelling errors.
i think that legalizing marijuana would be a good idea. it would put some drug dealers out of business. also, if it was legal maybe less people would do it. i read somewhere that smoking marijuana is not as bad for your lungs as regular smokes.
Less people would do it if it was illegal. Most people only do it because it is illegal. I know personally, when I was in Tennessee, most people started drinking because UT is a dry campus. The appeal of defiance goes away when its legal.
Let’s make it legal in our class. That would open everyone’s mind to new ideas.
I believe pot should be legal!!!!!!!!!!!!Why not!? Verses hate the drug dealer for making money....let it circulate and have it help the economy.....Just like anything else.......dont abuse it.! Yeah right!!!!!Drinking has always been a problem.....Yet the bars are still open! So have every one help out and grow weed all over and you will have much happier folks!!!Would pot be easier to handle people doing or the harder stuff like coke and the more serious drugs of crack!!!think about it .......lobby for weed!!!!!!!!
I think it should be legal, but I will tell you why it won't be any time soon. Marijuana is not really taxable, because if it is legal, MANY people would just grow it instead of buy it. It's called "weed" for a reason - it can grow in a crack on a sidewalk. Tobacco is ridiculously difficult to grow, thats why nobody grows their own tobacco plant, and that is why when large corporations (with extensive resources) can grow it, the government allows them to sell it so they can tax it. Marijuana is simply too easy to produce, thus making it hard to tax, thus pushing the government toward keeping it illegal.
